Once

When you first open the app

Set up in a minute

Tap Get started, add your name and stage, and tick the subspecialties you do. Then add your current post, with its dates and your educational supervisor. Targets are optional, and you can skip setup and finish it later.

Already logging on another phone? Choose Restore from a backup on the first screen.

Setup step 3 of 6, Your subspecialties, with Breast, Chest and MSK ticked.

Every list

Log tab

Log a case

Search with the shorthand you use, or browse your subspecialties. Tap the side and your independence, then Save case. The day, site and supervisor carry over from your last case, so a whole list can be logged the next morning.

  • Level 1Observed · not counted
  • Level 2Directly supervised
  • Level 3Indirectly supervised
  • Level 4Independent

Each case gets its own code, like IL-0051. Log another like this copies it, leaving the side and your independence for you to choose.

The case screen for a subacromial bursa injection, with Right and Indirectly supervised chosen, Today PM at Site A with Dr S. Patel, ready to save.
Validate now, or Cases › To validate

Validate on the spot

Tap Validate now and hand your phone to your supervisor. They see only the cases logged under their name, tick the ones they agree with, can change a level or add feedback, and sign with their own PIN.

The first time, your supervisor checks their name and registration number, then creates their own PIN on your phone.

Dr S. Patel’s tick list: Dr A. Khan asks them to validate 3 cases logged with them, all ticked, with Validate 3 cases at the bottom.

As you go

Cases › Results

Chase every result

Biopsies and samples sent to the lab come due for a result after 7 days, or 14 for bone and spine biopsies. When one is due, search that day’s list on RIS, then tap Diagnostic or Non-diagnostic. Your biopsy yield adds up as you go.

Add the weekly results reminder to your calendar from Settings, so nothing slips.

Cases, Results: three results due now and more waiting, each with its day, site and supervisor.
Progress tab

Track your progress

See what’s waiting on you, your targets for this post with a line for where you’d expect to be today, Rad-DOPS for your training year, your biopsy yield, and your independence growing month by month.

Set a target for a subspecialty, a modality or a single procedure, counting every case you performed or only levels 3 and 4.

Progress: 4 cases to validate, 3 results to record, and targets for MSK and breast rotation, with Breast 13 of 20, Chest 6 of 8 and MSK 32 of 40.

At your meetings

Progress › Logbook review

Review your logbook together

At your mid-point and end-of-post meetings, tap Start logbook review and hand your phone to your educational supervisor. They see your numbers and who validated your cases, can sign off competence for each procedure, add a comment, and sign with their PIN.

The logbook review as Dr S. Patel sees it: the post, its dates, 51 cases logged with 31 at level 3 or 4, 47 of 51 validated, and Sign with PIN.
Settings › Export for your portfolio

Export for ARCP and your portfolio

Make a PDF logbook, a spreadsheet or a CSV file, for this post, your training year, all time or dates you choose. The PDF gives a summary, then every case, ready for ARCP, interviews and your e-portfolio.

Consultants make a one-page appraisal summary for their appraisal year instead.

Export for your portfolio: PDF logbook, Spreadsheet or CSV file, for this post, ST3, all time or chosen dates, by subspecialty.

Private by design

Your logbook stays on your phone

  • Private to youYour cases are stored only on your phone, and they’re private to you. Nobody at Intervention Logbook can see them, not even Dr Azhar Ali, who made the app.

  • No account, no serverThe app has no account to create, and your cases are never sent to us. They only leave the phone in a backup or export you make.

  • No patient details, everThe app never asks for names, dates of birth, or hospital, NHS or accession numbers. Cases are logged by day, list and procedure.

  • It checks what you typeIf a few words look like a patient detail, the app asks before saving. An NHS number is never kept, and every export is checked before it’s made.

  • Back up, and carry on anywhereA backup is locked with a passphrase you choose. Restore it on a new phone and carry on where you left off.

The first screen of the app: Your logbook stays on this phone. Nothing is sent anywhere, and you never enter patient names, dates of birth, or hospital, NHS or accession numbers.

Questions

Good to know

When can I get it?
It’s coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join our mailing list and we’ll email you when it launches.
Is it free?
Yes. Intervention Logbook will be free to download and use.
Do I need an account?
No. The app has no account to create or log in to. Your logbook lives on your phone.
Can anyone at Intervention Logbook see my cases?
No. They never leave your phone unless you make a backup or export, so they’re private to you.
Does it replace my e-portfolio?
No, it works alongside it. Export a PDF logbook or spreadsheet whenever your portfolio, ARCP panel or appraiser needs your numbers.
What if I change or lose my phone?
Your logbook is only on your phone, so back up from Settings now and then. Restore from a backup brings everything back on a new phone.
Can my supervisor see my whole logbook?
Only on your phone, when you hand it over. When validating, they see just the cases logged with them. At a logbook review, your educational supervisor sees your logbook for that post.
Who made it?
Dr Azhar Ali, a UK radiologist, built it to make logging as easy as possible, shaped by the colleagues who piloted it.
